Child-centred responses to HIV and AIDS: memory work

Memory work is rooted in oral history approaches that value the transmission of knowledge between generations as a way of building cultural identity. By increasing communication in a safe environment, children are supported to develop increased understanding and resilience to the impact of HIV and AIDS on their lives. This, in turn, opens up opportunities for children to become more involved in planning for their future. Parents are also encouraged to share memories, family background and experiences to preserve their knowledge for future generations.

Source and Healthlink Worldwide have collected key information resources on child-centred responses to HIV and AIDS, and the 'memory work' approach to psychosocial intervention.
